This article on how orchestras (and artistic ensembles in general) should consider rooting themselves in their particular homes and places is really good. The particular case in question is the resurrection of the Minnesota Orchestra, but the thoughts in the article (comparing fines wines and the concept of "terroir" to musical ensembles) could apply to any kind of artist.
